Learn More About Dynamic Torque Sensor

A dynamic (rotational) torque sensor is a precision measuring instrument that measures various torques and mechanical power.

Dynamic Torque Transducers: Principle of Torque Speed Measurement

  1. Principle of torque measurement

The dynamic torque sensor is a sensor with a resistance strain gage as a resistance conversion element. Resistance strain gauges are based on the resistance-strain effect of metal resistance wires. The so-called strain effect refers to a physical phenomenon in which the resistance value of a metal conductor (resistance wire) changes with deformation (elongation or shortening).

A resistance strain gauge is pasted on the elastic body of the dynamic torque sensor to form a Wheatstone bridge. Apply the excitation voltage to the bridge. Under the action of torque, the elastic body deforms. The strain gage thus produces a change in resistance. This makes the bridge unbalanced. The bridge outputs a voltage signal that is linearly related to torque.

  1. Principle of rotational speed measurement

Dynamic torque sensors have two speed measurement methods:
Photoelectric code disc speed measurement
Hall Effect Velocimetry.

Both methods output 60 pulses in one revolution of the sensor. The pulse is then converted into a frequency square wave output.

Dynamic torque: It is the peak value displayed in real time during the assembly process when the fastener is tightened. That is, the dynamic torque that the power tool applies to the bolt, overcoming the friction.

The axial preload force for the bolts generated by the dynamic torque meets the engineering requirements for the preload force. Generally, the torque value preset by the tool or equipment is the dynamic torque value.

Static torque: refers to the torque required to overcome static friction after a fastener has been tightened and we continue to rotate in the direction of tightening.

Generally, the peak torque we measure with an analog hand wrench is the static torque.
