The dynamic torque sensor provided by Sino-Inst is a resistance strain dynamic torque sensor. dynamic torque sensor Torque measurement using strain gauge technology.

A strain bridge is formed on the elastic axis. The electrical signal of the elastic shaft being twisted can be measured by supplying power to the strain bridge. After the strain signal is amplified, it undergoes pressure/frequency conversion. becomes a frequency signal proportional to the torsional strain.

What is the purpose of the force torque sensor?

The force torque sensor is divided into two categories: dynamic and dynamic. Force torque sensor is the detection of torque torque perception on various rotating or non-rotating mechanical parts. And convert the physical changes of torque into precise electrical signals.

The force torque sensor can be used in the manufacture of viscometers, electric (pneumatic, hydraulic) torque wrenches. It has the advantages of high precision, fast frequency response, good reliability and long life.

Field of application of force torque sensor:

  1. AC (DC) motor, servo motor, stepper motor;
  2. Control and inspection of the machining process of automobile engines, diesel engines, steering gears, the overall rigidity and torsion of the body and other components;
  3. Electric (manual) actuator, automatic opening and closing control of various valves.
  4. Control and monitoring of oil extraction and refining process, monitoring of thermal (water) power generation equipment, ore screening control, and monitoring of wind power generation equipment.
  5. Torque life test of various materials.
  6. Process control of railway machinery and equipment, etc. details as follows:
    1. Detect the output torque and power of rotating power equipment such as generators, motors, and internal combustion engines.
    2. Detect the load torque and input power of reducers, fans, pumps, mixers, winches, propellers, drilling machinery and other equipment.
    3. Detect the torque in the working process of various machining centers and automatic machine tools.
    4. The torque transmitted by various rotating power equipment systems is extremely efficient.
    5. It can detect the rotational speed and axial force while detecting the torque.
    6. It can be used to manufacture viscometers, electric (pneumatic, hydraulic) torque wrenches.

Torque sensors are not common in our daily life, but their application is very important.
The torque sensor on the car checks the torsional deformation of the torsion bar and converts it into an electrical signal. This electrical signal is transmitted to the electric power steering system under the battery.

The sensor consists of phase splitter units 1 and 2 and a torsion bar. Sensor 1 is located on the steering spindle and sensor 2 is located on the pinion shaft. After the torsion bar is rotated, the two phase splitter units create a relative angle.

The converted voltage signal is transmitted to the electric power steering system. The electric power steering system determines the corresponding working voltage of the EPS steering motor according to the relative resistance. The location of the two cells is also used above.

  1. The electric power steering system only starts the motor to generate electricity when steering is required. This can reduce the fuel consumption of the engine.
  2. It can provide power under various driving conditions. Reduce motor unevenness. The output torque of the motor is assisted by the action of the transmission. Assist system interference, improve the vehicle’s steering characteristics, and improve the vehicle’s active safety.
  3. Without hydraulic circuit, it is easier to adjust and detect. Assembly automation is higher. Different models can be quickly matched by setting different programs. Shorten production and development cycles. No oil leakage problem, reduce environmental pollution.

Electric power steering systems primarily use torque sensors to detect the magnitude and direction of torque or the angle produced by the steering wheel when the driver steers. And convert the required information into digital signal input control unit. Then there is the axis control unit pair.

These signals are calculated to obtain a torque compatible with the driving conditions. And this command is used to drive the motor to work. The output torque of the electric motor is assisted by the action of the transmission.

It’s not hard to see that torque sensors are very important. Damage to the car’s torque sensor directly causes the car to lose its steering assist function during driving. Stiff steering failure.

Such torque sensors are very important in automotive safety issues. The quality of the torque sensor directly determines the safety factor of the car.

Frequently asked questions

Dynamic torque sensor can be divided into contact measurement and non-contact measurement according to the signal transmission mode, both of which should overcome the problem of rotating strands.

In the dynamic measurement process, the measuring element needs to lead the signal line from the rotating shaft to the control circuit of the fixed housing for signal processing.

If it is led out by the collector ring and the carbon brush (similar to the motor brush), it is a contact type;
If the principle of electric, magnetic and optical sensing is adopted, the signal signal is directly transmitted instead of the collector ring and the carbon brush, that is, non-contact measurement.

According to material mechanics, when a torque is applied to a shaft, it will cause a torque deformation. It consists of two physical quantities, one is the torsion angle and the other is the maximum shear stress or strain.

As long as one of them is measured, the torque of the shafting can be obtained according to the relevant calculation formula. Therefore, according to this measurement principle, it can be divided into torsion angle measurement and strain measurement.

Principle of strain measurement.

The most traditional method of strain measurement is to paste resistance strain gauges. With the development of science and technology, in addition to resistance strain gauges, there are many new methods. Such as acoustic surface wave strain measurement, piezoelectric strain measurement and strain measurement by the stretching effect. But the essence of its measurement is to obtain the strain value.

Traditional resistance strain gage torque transducers have strain gages as bridges, glued at 45° and 135° on the elastic axis. When the elastic shaft is torqued, the torsional deformation will lead to the change of bridge resistance, and the change of the strain bridge resistance will be converted into the change of the voltage signal. The signals transmitted from the rotating shaft to the fixed housing mainly include carbon brush contact, electromagnetic induction and wireless transmission.

When the existing torque sensor is used, it is mostly used as a precision torque measurement. After a long time of use, it will cause mechanical fatigue. Therefore, it must be calibrated and tested.

So how to calibrate the torque sensor?

Let’s take a look together!

Torque sensor calibration method and steps:

  1. Calibration preparation: Prepare the calibration tools (weight components, torsion joints (for folding testing machines), enamel discs (for automatic torque machines), rotary testers, torsion handles).
  2. Turn on the industrial control host and open the test software. Make sure that the connection between the pressure sensor and the motion card is stable. The numerical value is within the range of error (0.01gf.cm-0.03gf).
  3. Assemble the auxiliary connectors.
  4. Open the software to select the corresponding range of the sensor. Then open the calibration sensor interface. Clear the value when the sensor has no load.
  5. Select a suitable weight according to the sensor range. Select a small weight for a sensor with a small range, and a larger weight for a large range. For example, choose 200g, 100g weight for 2N.m, choose 500g, 1kg weight for 50N.m. Tie the weight to one end of the connecting piece. Hang it on one end of the pulley through the rope along the groove of the standard piece. Keep the contact state without external force Stablize.
  6. On the software calibration interface, click Allow Calibration. Enter the torque value of the calibration weight (gravity * force arm), and click OK.
  7. Wind the weight in another direction. Check the reverse force value. If the difference is large (>0.5gf.cm), take the average value of the positive and negative force values.
  8. Record the calibration date. Fill in the tool to the “Equipment Sensor Calibration Record Form.
  9. The calibration cycle is normally 1 year. If it is repaired or adjusted during use, it needs to be re-calibrated.

Torque sensors are precision measuring instruments used to measure various torques, revolutions and mechanical thermal efficiencies.

  1. Determine the distance between the prime mover and the load according to the connection form of the shaft and the length of the Dynamic Micro Torque Sensor. Adjust the distance between the prime mover and the load shaft so that the coaxiality of the shaft is less than φ0.03mm. Secure the prime mover and load to the reference plane.
  2. Put the couplings on their respective shafts.
  3. Adjust the distance between the torque sensor and the reference surface. The coaxiality of its axis with the prime mover and the load shaft is less than φ0.03mm. And fix the Dynamic Micro Torque Sensor on the reference surface.
  4. Tighten the coupling and the installation is complete.

The relatively perfect detection technology of torque test is strain force measurement technology. It has the advantages of high precision, fast frequency response, good stability and long service life.

The special torsion resistance strain gauge is hung on the elastic shaft to be measured with strain force viscose, and a strain force bridge is formed. If the power supply is switched on and off during the supply work to the strain force bridge, the light bulb number that the elastic shaft is twisted can be detected. This is the most basic torque sensor approach.

How To Choose A Torque Transducer For Your Application?

Frequently
Asked
Questions

The measurement principle of the torque transducer: using the strain gauge electrical measurement technology, a strain bridge is formed on the elastic shaft, and the electrical signal of the elastic shaft being twisted can be measured by supplying power to the strain bridge. After the strain signal is amplified, it is converted into a frequency signal proportional to the torsional strain after pressure/frequency conversion.

Commonly used dynamic torque sensors mainly have the following forms:

  1. Inductive torque sensor: This type of sensor mainly adopts a non-contact measurement method. This kind of torque sensor has a long life, high reliability, and is not easy to be worn.
  2. Potentiometer type torque sensor: This type of sensor can be divided into gear type, torsion bar type, and arm type according to the type. Among them, the torsion bar measurement has a simple structure and relatively high reliability. It was widely used in the early days. Sensors of this type are contacting and suffer from wear that reduces their performance.
  3. Metal resistance strain gauge type: This type of torque sensor is mainly composed of a measuring bridge by pasting strain gauges on the elastic shaft. When the elastic shaft is subjected to torque, it will produce a small deformation and cause the bridge resistance to change. .And the change in the resistance of the strain bridge is converted into a change in the voltage signal to achieve the torque measurement we want.

Torque can be divided into dynamic torque and static torque, which have a great impact on the final assembly of the product. Therefore, in the actual processing process, it is very important to distinguish between the two. Today we are going to tell you the difference between dynamic torque and static torque.

Dynamic torque: It is the peak value displayed in real time during the assembly process when the fastener is tightened. That is, the dynamic torque that the power tool applies to the bolt, overcoming the friction. The axial preload force for the bolts generated by the dynamic torque meets the engineering requirements for the preload force. Generally, the torque value preset by the tool or equipment is the dynamic torque value.

Static torque: refers to the torque required to overcome static friction after a fastener has been fastened and we continue to rotate in the direction of tightening. Generally, the peak torque we measure with an analog hand wrench is the static torque.

Torque sensors are the detection of torsional torque sensing on various rotating or non-rotating mechanical components. Torque sensors convert physical changes in torque into precise electrical signals. Torque sensors can be used in the manufacture of torque wrenches.
